Jharkhand IT Engineer Defies Paralysis, Authors Poignant Poetry Collection on Lost Human Values

Ranchi, April 9: In a deeply inspiring story of grit, resilience, and the triumph of human spirit over physical adversity, Avinash Gaurav, a Computer Science Engineer serving in the government IT sector in Jharkhand, has transformed one of the most difficult phases of his life into a powerful literary milestone.

A distinguished professional known for his contribution to governance and technology, Avinash has been a core member of a Prime Minister’s Award-winning team on two occasions. The team recipient of the Indian Express Excellence in Governance Award in the Energy category, recognising his impactful work in the public sector. Beyond his professional achievements, he has been actively involved in youth development as the founder of Pen Voice Youth Organization, an initiative he launched in 2016 to work toward youth empowerment and social awareness.

His latest achievement, however, emerges not from institutional success but from an intensely personal battle.

On 15 August, Avinash was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare and serious neurological condition that attacks the peripheral nervous system and can lead to rapid muscle weakness and paralysis. In his case, the illness progressed to the point of complete paralysis, leaving him unable to move even slightly for nearly three to four months.

During this prolonged phase, he lost the ability to use his hands, perform basic physical actions, or carry out even the simplest day-to-day tasks independently. Completely dependent on assistance, the period could easily have become one of silence, frustration, and despair.

Instead, it became a phase of creation.

Determined not to let his condition interrupt his purpose, Avinash began writing through unconventional yet extraordinary means. Since traditional writing was impossible, he turned to voice prompts on his mobile phone and laptop, dictating his thoughts, emotions, and poetic reflections line by line.

In moments when voice assistance alone was not enough, he went a step further in demonstrating sheer determination—using his nose to operate digital devices so that the process of expression could continue uninterrupted.

This extraordinary discipline and emotional commitment continued for nearly six months, eventually culminating in a 68-page book of reflective poems.

The book offers a thoughtful and introspective commentary on the state of modern human relationships and values. Through poignant verses, it explores themes such as the emotional disconnect created by the digital age, increasingly superficial relationships, the silent and often unspoken struggles of young people, and the gradual erosion of patience, authenticity, emotional presence, and meaningful human connection.

At its core, the collection attempts to remind readers of the importance of compassion, stillness, honesty, and human sensitivity in an age increasingly dominated by speed, screens, and performative interaction.

The literary work has already begun resonating with readers. It recorded sales of more than 50 copies on the very first day of release, while the entire first batch was sold out within a month, indicating a strong emotional connection with audiences, particularly youth and readers drawn to reflective literature.

More than just a book launch, Avinash Gaurav’s journey is a compelling reminder that creativity can survive even in the harshest circumstances. His story powerfully reinforces that while the body may be temporarily restrained, the mind, voice, and spirit can continue to create, inspire, and lead.

His resilience now stands not only as a personal victory over illness but also as an enduring message of hope for countless others facing adversity.
